Lionfish

Pretty much everything about the venomous lionfish--its red-and-white zebra stripes, long, showy pectoral fins, and generally cantankerous demeanor--says, ''Don't touch!''

Common names: Lionfishlion fish, zebrafish, firefish, turkeyfish, red lionfish, butterfly cod, ornate butterfly-cod, peacock lionfish, red firefish, scorpion volitans.

Lionfish take advantage of their camouflage to stalk their prey. When they are close enough, lionfish quickly open their jaws to snap up their prey.

A majority of the specimens sold as Freshwater Lionfish are brackish species that will do much better in a brackish aquarium than in a freshwater aquarium.
